Gorman Motorsports supports BMW CCA Data Acquisition at Buttonwillow

bmwccaGorman Motorsports supported the San Diego BMW CCA chapter at Buttonwillow Raceway last weekend to teach our class; “Data Acquisition using Traqmate and Traqview”. It was an exciting event with an unprecedented 29 drivers collecting data over the course of the weekend. With Traqmate Basics being used in each car, students had real world data to compare against instructors and other students for driver improvement.

Part II of II: Using Traqmate with your Mac

In Part I, we discussed using a virtual machine and configuring Windows and installing Traqview. We finished it off by getting the .tqm data off of the DU. In Part II of the series we’re going to take the next step and get the video off your camcorder or Chasecam and synchronizing it with your data. Video can be somewhat tricky due to so many standards and new technologies, however, we will keep it simple and easy. In order to synchronize video with your .tqm data we’re going to need a few things.

Johannes van Overbeek of Flying Lizard Motorsports comments on Gorman Motorsports

johannesKenny and Dan at Gorman Motorsports are the first guys I have come across who really understand Traqmate. They not only know how it works, but how to use the many tools embedded in Traqmate to highlight where you and the car could be faster. Their helpfulness and knowledge with data acquisition is a must if you’re serious about going faster.

Traqview & Traqstudio 2.15 annouced

Track Systems has announced the availability of Traqview/Traqstudio 2.15. Both are a free download and we encourage all our customers to upgrade to the new versions for TraqView and TraqStudio. In addition to fixing various stability issues they have also added more features. We have already taken the 2.15 release for a spin and have really found the HP/Torque component very exciting in conjunction with the new elevation feature. Track Systems has also provided a very simple way to input your vehicle dimensions to calculate the Torque/HP data. We are also very excited about the turn radius feature as well as the ability to record vehicle setup data like tire pressure right within the application. We believe these new features will further compliment an already great product.

Getting the right video file for your session

While the Chasecam and Traqmate integration works well, there are some cases where we’ve noticed it can be difficult to know which video goes to which .tqm file. It can become further difficult if a person turns it on, off, test etc. It can get even more difficult if you rename your video files. How can you make sure you get the right video for your session?

At Gorman Motorsports, we’ve developed a simple system to integrate with your pit workflow before a you (or your driver) goes out. By simply holding your fingers up in the field of view of the camera with the appropriate session, you can always easily identify which video goes to which tqm file. For example, if you’re going out for the second session of the day, simply get in the camera’s view and hold up two fingers.

This simple and quick approach can save you a potential headache later.

Upgrading your Traqmate Basic to Traqmate Complete

We’ve had a few customers that were interested in upgrading their Traqmate Basic to a Traqmate Complete. In a few easy steps, you too can upgrade your existing investment! The big difference in the Basic versus the Complete is the addition of the DU (Display Unit). Under normal operating mode just simply connecting the DU to the Basic SU will not work.

Getting the right time for your sessions!

At Gorman Motorsports, we’ve noticed many of the DU’s coming in don’t correctly have their time set thus it becomes very hard to correlate the sessions and actual time. The quick way to fix that is to set it correctly on your DU.

1) Power up the DU either in your car or via USB on your computer
2) Scroll down on the DU to “Change Settings” and press the green “Select” button
3) Scroll down on the DU to “GMT Offset” and press the green “Select” button
4) Select the correct GMT Offset for your time zone.

Now you’ll never be left scratching your head trying to remember which actual sessions correlated to your Traqmate data.
